Hi –

There has been a lot of activity with Chat in the past few months so I wanted to bring you up to speed on the latest.

We have announced the Chat application availability for touch-enabled S60 5th edition phones (availability varies by operator and region) and for Symbian^3 phones that provide IM capabilities for these Nokia phones.  These new versions of the Chat application are really important because Chat is the only way that you can access Ovi Chat powered by Yahoo! on your Nokia phone.

With the release of these new Chat applications, availability of Ovi Chat powered by Yahoo!, and last year’s decision to stop future development on the instant messaging feature of Ovi Contacts, we will be discontinuing the instant messaging feature of Ovi Contacts on August 1, 2011.  If you are a Contacts user, you must begin using the Chat application to continue sending and receiving instant messages from your Ovi friends after this date.  You can go to https://nokia.mobi/chatupdate from your phone to find step-by-step instructions on how to start using Chat to access your Ovi community.  We will also be notifying you about this change via email and an instant message that will appear within Ovi Contacts after you log in.

We have just a couple of reminders about switching to the Chat application so you can keep chatting with your Ovi friends.  First, your Ovi friends also need to switch to the Chat application so you can see each other and keep exchanging instant messages. So don’t forget to remind them to make the switch to keep in touch with Chat after August 1, 2011.  Second, if you don’t see your friends after they’ve switched to Chat, send them a new friend invitation.  You can get their Ovi ID from the Contacts application until August 1, 2011.  Once you have, go back to the Chat application where you can enter it in the “Add friend” screen.

We hope that you will take these simple steps to continue chatting with your Ovi friends.  We look forward to delivering more enhancements with Yahoo! moving forward!

Please note that address book synchronization from your phone’s Address Book and from the web site (http://contacts.ovi.com) are not affected by this notice.  You can continue using both without taking further action.

If you have any questions about this migration, you can go to the Ovi support site at www.ovi.com/support/osc/contacts for basic FAQs and guidance on the process.

Thank you for your support of Ovi Contacts and for your on-going use of Ovi Chat!

-Jenny
