Hello everyone, our friend Lukas had something happen to him during his world travel – and no, it is not something nice :( . Read on to see his take on it, and please comment below how you would react in this situation. I would have been freaking out and too distraught to think properly – my phone is my lifeline and I panic when I misplace my N8 and cannot find it.

Dear readers, what would you do if your precious Nokia got stolen? No seriously, I really would like to know what would you do in a situation if- Let’s say (just as a random example)- during  your around the World cycling tour, somebody stole your mobile phone?

A device, with which you had captured hundreds of pics and videos. A device, which is your navigation system, social network, office, game room and a DJ. A device which wakes you up in the mornings and helps you fall asleep in the nights. A device, which can receive a message from your mom saying :“be careful, son”. A device, which truly connects people.

It happened at this internet café in Oruro, Bolivia. It was Sunday evening when after a long day of pedaling I decided to check my e-mails. For this time of being I placed my mini97 next to the keyboard. Of course, the mobile was forgotten next to this keyboard when I set off to pay for the service. And only three minutes of my absence was enough for someone to leave the net café with my property in his pocket.

When I realized what happened I did my best to get my Nokia back. First I interviewed everybody at the net cafe, if they had seen anyone leaving the place. Then I asked the café worker to send an sms to my number, saying that returning my phone will earn him 300 US dollars. Lastly I called to my number if I could talk some sense into this snitch. All attempts were in vain. I had no other choices than to block my sim-card and the mobile phone. The game was over.

Every time I hear a story about a stolen camera, I hope there would be a case where the thief would at least send the memory card back to it’s owner. Can’t the thief see that the pics are worthless to him but priceless to the one who had captured them?

In the case of a mobile theft things get even more complicated, because mobile phone is equipped with much more than just a single feature. And that is why I’m going to do my last effort to get back my precious Nokia.  “Dear thief, if you are reading this post, to send me back my white mini97 :) .”

My bike trip is now continuing through lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu to Lima(Peru), from where I’ll fly to North America. Hopefully my new device, Nokia N8, will be ready to rock the new continent as hard as I am. Because that will be AWESOME HARD!

(these two pictures were taken by my Swiss biking friend Nedo with his camera)
