It’s that time of the year again. Juhannus (Midsummer in English) went flying by, and most people are getting ready to close their laptops and head off for their summer holidays. At least here in the Nokia Espoo office people have been swapping their summer holiday plans eagerly over the water cooler, and everyone seems to be doing the coolest things over July and August this year! So, we decided to share some of these plans with you, our readers! During the next couple of weeks you will read about the summer holidays of some of our previous Ovi People interviewees Antti, Michiel, Emily, Tiina, Pino and yours truly.
Also, remember how we’ve always asked you to send us your ideas on what you would like to read about here at the Ovi Blog? Well, just so that it happens, our dear friend Jade gave the idea for this series
Together with Jade we decided to ask the following three questions from our interviewees:
1. What are you planning on doing on your holidays this year?
2. What is your best way of spending time if it’s raining outside? And what about if it’s sunny outside?
3. What is your favourite “summer food”?
The first two mini-interviews are with Antti and Tiina. Fun fact: they’re both going to the Opera Festivals in Savonlinna! Nokians just find each other no matter where they go, LOL! Let’s see what their other answers were!
1. We’re spending the Midsummer (“Juhannus”) in Hamburg, which is, by the way, a very untypical thing to do as a Finn… Then, when I start my longer summer holidays in July, I think we’re pretty much just going to stay at home because we just got a new home and we have a summer place in the middle of Finland. We’re also planning on visiting the Opera Festival in Savonlinna. That’s about it!
2. Playing cards is the best pastime for rainy days! My favourite card game is a traditional Finnish game “Marjapussi” which bears resemblance to Bridge. When it’s sunny, I like to just lie in the sun, read a book… and now that we have a one year old daughter, so sunny days will also include playing in the yard quite a bit from now on =)
3. The best summer food is smoke salmon and fresh potatoes. Simple but deadly delicious.
1. This year I think there will be no crazy traveling for me, I think this summer I’ll just do the very “Finnish” thing, i.e. go to our summer cottage. I’m also planning on visiting the Savonlinna Opera Festivals and then maybe a quick trip to Barcelona where a friend of mine is spending her summer. Let’s see!
2. If and when it’s raining (ha!), the best thing to do is grab a book and do some reading. Or maybe doing some sports indoors. And when it’s sunny, it’s best to just be outside! Maybe swimming, maybe cycling… I’m not a big sun-fan, though, but I’ll still definitely be outside, hopefully in the shadow though.
3. The best summer food would have to be… strawberries! (ed.note: I hear ya!)

Now a question to you! Do you have holidays this year? What are your holiday plans?
