WebOS 1.2 Accidentally Leaked!

go4craig in our Palm Pre Forums has just posted that he applied the webOS Doctor (the 'last resort' method for getting your Pre back to factory standard) and, wonder of wonders, it installed webOS 1.2 for him. Guess what - same thing happened for forum member Leathal.

One of the new features the ability to enter your account information in the App Catalog - which isn't surprising given that we're expecting Palm to take the App Catalog into for-pay land sometime this month. That should also mean that 1.2 could potentially become available this month.

Also exciting, a new "Select all" option under the edit menu - the edit menu on the browser, meaning maybe, just maybe, we might be getting improved copy / paste functionality. Also - changes in location services that appear to resolve our complaints by giving us finer-grained control over how our location is tracked. You can also turn data usage on and off.

Both he and angrygoose managed to grab "(Build Sprint.100.166 08/30/09 08:03)" of the webOS Doctor, but the version that's up now is (Build Sprint.76.143 07/24/09 19:44), so if it was a leak, it was short-lived.

Update: Just spoke with Craig and it seems clear that this was an accidental leak from Palm via the vector described above.  The browser does seem much improved (zoom animation) and there are little tweaks throughout.  We hope this should hit officially soon!

Update 2: As tends to happen with these things, the 1.2 leak is out there on the internets. People, we strongly recommend you don't apply this to your Pre. If you do, the Pre may try to download / install the 1.1 update and then apply it if you're not careful -- a process which, for go4craig at least, caused some serious bricked phone action.

Update 3: Type to find within the email app is working - searches contacts and subjects at least, emails sadly not included in Universal Search. This thread is the place to check for everything that's new in 1.2.

Update 4: nullity points out that saving images from the browser now works.

We have a few more of his screenshots after the break! Thanks for the tip, Alex!
