We really love the biking community which is growing around Maps. It’s strong, fun and very passionate about Ovi.
And because we love you, we decided to give you more space.
Lukas, who is biking around the world with Ovi gears, is probably already your hero, but today I’d like to introduce you Jarosław aka @kreativtek who accepted the mission to write about his own Maps experience on a bike tour in Poland.
I virtually met Jarosław on this blog thanks to all his constructive feedback and fantastic suggestions. If you are a fellow reader you might have noticed some of his comments
We’ve started following each other on Twitter and one day he told me he used Maps on a bike tour with a friend of his.
Immediately I asked him whether he was available to write a short review for the Ovi Blog. Do I have to tell you what his answer was?
Just read his story below…
If you also want your 15 minutes of fame on the Ovi Blog, don’t forget that we are always looking for true Ovi fans to be interviewed by us. And if you have nice Ovi experiences to share with us, please do so and you’ll be featured here.

Two days ago my friend Jakub and I decided to take a bike trip. We wanted to reach a nearby village called Modliszewice. Unfortunately, in the middle-way we took the wrong turn, made a big circle around our hometown and returned at the starting point without reaching the destination. The trip turned out to be a disappointing experience and I decided then: “Never again I will get lost. Next time I’ll get Ovi Maps with me”.
It was right after dinner, when my friend Jakub gave me a call.
— Interested in a little bike voyage? Let’s try to reach Modliszewice again. I think I know the right way now.
— Count me in. But today I get Ovi Maps with me. Just in case You forget where the road is.
It was a sunny, windy day. Perfect weather for a bike trip; not too hot, not too cold.
But we felt the thunderstorm hanging in the air.
Jakub seemed to know the right direction, but I, out of curiosity, took my brand new Nokia 5230 and launched Ovi Maps application. It was the first time I had an opportunity to test it in the field.
I set the destination point, satellite automatically sighted my position and I was ready to tap the button Drive. Ten seconds later I heard — In one kilometer, two hundred meters turn left.
I was amazed. I have never seen mobile navigation software, which would work THAT fast. And I’ve seen most of them.
Even my friend stopped his bike and asked, gasping at the phone in my hand:
— Did just Your phone catch a fix so fast?
— Yes — I said, laughing.
— Isn’t it great? Let’s check out where this baby will get us to.
— In one kilometer, turn right.
— Road under construction.
— Two kilometers and three hundred meters to the destination.
— Five hundred meters to the destination.
It was great experience, to bike being navigated correctly by little device in the palm of Your hand.
I was just admiring how smooth, quick and reliable Ovi Maps was. Turn by turn, we were driven to the RIGHT destination in almost no time, route, which was shorter than the one we were planning to take.
— You’ve reached your destination
At the place, we ended up in Modliszewice, drinking cold lemonade and smiling.
— Ok, so where are we heading now? — asked Jakub and looked significantly at my pocket, where Nokia 5230 with Ovi Maps was.
