Hi guys, we have a lot of you posting comments on how you use Ovi in your daily life. I asked one of you, Martain, to tell us a bit about his history with us. Martain lives in The Netherlands with his wife and three kids, and is a telecom professional. He has been using Nokia devices since the past fourteen years. And now, on Martain’s words; his love story with Ovi :-)

Hi Martain, when did you start using Ovi to navigate? I started to use Maps on a Nokia E61 together with an external GPS receiver. I didn’t navigate that time but used the combination for positioning and to record my way with Sports Tracker.
I was pleasantly surprised back then by the announcement of Nokia to deliver lifetime free navigation on several handsets. I didn’t pay for it yet because I had received a one year free license from Nokia earlier. I possessed a Nokia E71 at that moment which belonged to the supported devices and thus I could navigate without having to worry about license expiration.

So you are a veteran :-) Do you have any experience that you want to share with the Blog readers? I use Maps mostly to drive to places that I visit for the first time. That happens during work days when I need to go to a new customer site in The Netherlands and during vacation. In the latter case, we drive with the whole family to a camping, resort or hotel abroad. We like to visit Switzerland and especially the Jungfrau region nearby Interlaken. And then they are impressed; dad always finds the way and doesn’t get lost thanks to navigation in his pocket.

Earlier the Nokia E71 and now the Nokia N8 gets placed in the holder on the dashboard and is pointing direction. My wife and kids love the 3D map option that shows the road ahead.

What they don’t know yet, is that I prepare my trips beforehand with maps.ovi.com and synchronize the route to the phone.

Lately, my wife and I visited Maastricht and in the center of the city, I used the walk navigation to go from one touristic place to the other and it’s great to see the miniature of the important buildings on screen.

Did you try out the latest Maps release? What do you think? Maps is constantly evolving due the efforts of Nokia. Last week, I downloaded the latest version from Nokia Beta Labs to my Nokia N8. This version enables you to download maps directly to the device without having to use a PC with Nokia Ovi Suite or Maps Loader. And, you can see which maps have been installed. That’s what you want! Check the night before leaving abroad if the needed maps are on your phone and if not, download them easily to it.
The implementation of this feature proves that Nokia listens to its users. I myself for example, brought up this wish through various channels that Nokia uses to communicate with users and feel highly appreciated.
I love to navigate with Ovi. Did I say that it looks great?

Thank you Martain for your lovely words! Guys, you can know more about Martain via his twitter (@martaiNokia) feed or blog. You can also friend him on Flickr. And no, despite the Nokia name on his twitter feed, he does not work for Nokia :-)
Do you have any stories to share with Ovi – how you used it, some of the awesome journeys you have undertaken with it, some of the places in your neighborhood that you discovered though it and other fun stuff? Please comment below, I would love to hear from you!
