Ovi suggests something green, something hip, and something Tweetable

I'd like to begin with a quick point of clarification to my post here in the Ovi blog from last week. I presented three apps to make your travels easier, and my headline made some people think there were only three travel-related apps in Store! Well, obviously, nothing could be further from the truth. There are more travel apps than I have time to count - suffice to say, there's something for everyone.

I’d like to begin with a quick point of clarification to my post here in the Ovi blog from last week. I presented three apps to make your travels easier, and my headline made some people think there were only three travel-related apps in Store! Well, obviously, nothing could be further from the truth. There are more travel apps than I have time to count – suffice to say, there’s something for everyone.

With that said, I would also like to point out one more travel app that was not part of the list last week, but certainly warrants a look-see, and then download.

Let’s begin with the award-winning TripSketch Green Traveler. This app  is an easy-to-understand travel guide that provides a range of eco-friendly activities to try out across various locations around the world. It is compatible with both Nokia Symbian OS – S60 5.0 devices and Nokia’s new Symbian devices like the Nokia N8.

The app covers 79 cities across Europe, the United States and Canada, and recommends eco-friendly hotels, dining, transport, tours and attractions. It also integrates phone numbers for attractions, so you are one-click away from the fun, and you can save activities to the calendar on your device, too. TripSketch Green Traveler has been produced by TripSketch Corp and is available for free in Store.

But what if you can’t get away, and you still want to experience the jet-set lifestyle? Well, there’s always Crane.tv for your Nokia touch-enabled device. What is “Crane.tv” you ask? The website describes itself as “the premium online video magazine for contemporary culture.” OK, sounds good. What else you got?

The app offers more than 500 videos that deal broadly with five topics: art, design, fashion, lifestyle, and travel. And the focus is mainly on four hip, trendy places to be: Buenos Aires, Istanbul, London, and Milan. Dispatches can also be found from Berlin, Edinburgh, Miami, Munich, Paris, Trieste, and Zurich.

As our reviewer noted:  “All the Crane.tv videos are slick and well-produced, often with trendy music in the background.” Crane.tv is free to download from Store.

Finally – for today at least – what if you want to share all of those experiences you’re having in a hurry? Reach for your Nokia device, and fire up a Twitter app, right? (Well, that’s what it seems like all the kids are doing these days …) If you’re a Twitter user, the newest addition that is available in Store is called TwimGo by developer Tommi Laukkanen. Initially, this free app was released for use on the Maemo 5 platform (for the Nokia N900), and now it is making a name for itself with Nokia’s new Symbian phones like the Nokia N8.

This app was reviewed for us in the Ovi Daily App as part of ongoing guest blogger activity that we have taking place right now. The review was provided by Jay Montano, from MyNokiaBlog.com. In his review, he noted: “Overall, TwimGo is a great, free Twitter application. There are a few issues that I encountered, but nothing major to prevent from the basic reading/tweet sending. I’d say right now, TwimGo is my preferred free Twitter applications of the ones currently available.”

TwimGo is free in Store. And, if you want a preview for what’s coming next for this app, check out this video demo from the developer:

That’s all for now. But I promise to come back next week with another round of apps that should come in handy. If you have any suggestions for apps we should look at next, feel free to share your ideas in the Comments section below.
