First, a quick word or two of introduction: My name is Jason Black, and I am an editor with Forum Nokia. One of the things I do is oversee the content that is published in the Ovi Daily App blog – perhaps you’ve seen it? We dig in deep to find the best content that is in Ovi Store, and provide comprehensive reviews of mobile apps and games for use on Nokia devices. We write about apps everyday – some call us obsessed! – and we’re glad to do it. Pino asked us if we would share our insights with you, and of course, we said YES. So let’s begin…
Do you need ideas for apps that will enhance the way you use your Nokia device? We recently found a few that we think are keepers. Actually, let’s be honest, we’re excited about all of the apps we review, but we had to find a way to keep the list short… So, let’s take a look at three apps that grabbed our attention recently.
Two of the apps we want to share are all about what you can do with SMS (text) messages. One app, called Txt Tones by Killer Mobile (love that name!) offers a convenient way to set up a specific sound (or tone) – like a ringtone for incoming calls – that can be applied specifically to incoming SMS messages. Super easy to set it up and starting using it right away. This app is available for $1.99 (USD) in the Store, and it works on a broad range of Nokia Symbian OS S60 3.x and S60 5.0 (touch-enabled) devices.
The other text-related app that is well worth a look is SMSzipper by Acticom. Like its name implies, this handy little app makes it possible for you to send text messages that are longer than the standard 160 characters of a normal SMS. In fact, SMSzipper lets you send as many as 480 characters in a single message – 3X the normal length. It does so by compressing the characters by up to 66 percent. Pretty cool, right? It should be noted that for you to experience the full benefits of this app, both the sender and the recipient must have a copy of SMSzipper loaded and running on their Nokia devices. Happily, SMSzipper is free to download from the Store, and works on most Nokia S60 devices.
Finally, if your Nokia device needs a quick mobile makeover, have a look at *Spark (Beta) by the cool cats over at HipLogic. This free app not only gives your device a very slick looking interface, but it also gives you instant access to popular social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, as well as the latest headlines. You can also get local weather forecasts at a glance. Everything from the app is featured from your device home screen. This short video from the developers shows the app in action:

So there you have it. Three apps that certainly change the way you look at, hear, and use your Nokia device. We’ll be back next week to share more app ideas with you.

But before we go – hey, we warned you that we were a little bit obsessed with apps – we wanted to share some really good news with you. Many of you already know the joys of Nimbuzz, a social networking app for instant messaging and much more… but, did you know, it has now been downloaded more than 5 million times from the Store! Our congratulations to everyone at Nimbuzz on this accomplishment.
