There are not many things people know about Finland. Usually when I introduce myself as a Finn, people react by saying that my country is very cold. Sometimes they don’t even know where this strange place is. But when I said the magic word ‘Nokia’, there has been no single person who didn’t know what I’m talking about. In every country I visited, Nokia was like Colgate or Coca-Cola – a very well known brand.

So when I went to marvel the famous Iguazu waterfalls as an Ovi correspondent, a friendly person in charge gave me a free pass to enter the nature park of Iguazú. Of course for an exchange of nice blog post about one of the greatest nature wonders on our planet.

One has two choices to see the falls. Either from the Argentinian side or the Brazilian one. There is endless debate which side is better to go, though many tourists visit both. Maybe the Argentinian side gets more votes from the viewers, but Brazilians take that as a good thing, because that means the viewers are looking at their landscape. Nevertheless, I had time to check out only the Brazilian side, and I was not disappointed. I was one of the lucky fifteen thousand visitors that daily arrive from all over the world to see how the magnificent Iguazu river makes its way to the Parana river.

From the nearest city Foz do Iguaçu it’s 15km to the national park, after which you continue by bus for another 11km to the panorama viewpoint (or just cycle the way as I did). Entrance to the park is for foreigners 37 BRL, but you don’t have to settle just for that. There are many other activities you can do in the park, such as boat trips, treks, rafting, climbing, dining out, or taking a 10 minute helicopter ride above the falls. Basically all inclusive two day pass would cost almost 600 BRL.

For me, I was happy I got a good look at this waterfall from the normal trail. From there I could actually get so close to the falls, that I had to shout loud to be understood while constantly wiping my glasses dry. The power of the water is enormous, and it’s not a good idea to even test its mightiness. Unfortunately three days before I came over (after 10 years of no death accidents), two tourists died on Argentinian side during an unsuccessful boat ride below the waterfalls. But while the police investigates the reasons for this sad event, I suggest you pack your bag, upload Portuguese (Brazilian) dictionary on your Nokia phone, and head to this beauty where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet.
