Welcome to our fourth (fourth!) Ovi Fan Interview, everyone! We’ve already introduced you to CJ, Jade and Avnee, and this week we have a treat for every Nokia fan: the main man himself, Micky Aldrige (also known as MickyFin) from Nokiausers.net and NokiaDNA.com was awesome enough to give us an interview! This guy is like a god in the Nokia blogosphere, so please excuse me if I gasp every now and then between questions, heh. Anyway, let’s see what our friend Micky has to tell us about himself!
As always, if you would like to be interviewed by us, drop us a note in the comments section! We’re always looking for new interviewees!
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Micky Aldridge, Editor In-Chief of Nokiausers.net, where I have been a forums moderator too for the last couple of years. I’m the owner of NokiaDNA.com where I tend to post more personal thoughts on Nokia, devices, services, and gadgets.
Story of my life? Well, I’m originally from the UK, moved to Finland in 2007 to marry the love of my life, Johanna.
My professional experience is in the telecommunications industry, where in my previous career I planned and built new mobile phone networks around the world for Nokia and other big names in the industry.
What makes you passionate about what you do?
Being a self-confessed Nokia enthusiast, I have a lot of passion for Nokia, having worked for them around the world. I kind of have Nokia in my blood. I enjoy writing about all things Nokia, testing prototypes, and of course, Alpha and Beta software.
What do you like to do on your spare time? Do you have any pets, hobbies etc.?
Sadly no pets yet, but I do plan on getting a husky at some point in the future. I used to train Siberian Huskies many moons ago.
How did you find out about us (the Ovi Blog)?
I knew about the Ovi Blog before it went live
How long have you been a Ovi/Nokia fan?
Nokia enthusiast for a couple of decades now, and an Ovi fan for a few years!
What do you like most about Ovi/Nokia?
Openness, this is key, and something unique to Nokia, they are very contactable, and although sometimes it may appear they don’t listen, they really do, but this not always shows until sometime later
What was your very first Nokia device?
That would be the Nokia 8110. I remember it well, I was working in Switzerland at the time, and our team were all issued with one, and it was quite unique at the time.
Which device do you use right now?
Would you believe, an N86, a white one in fact. I did have an N97, but sadly due to poor internal spec, as a serious poweruser, I was pulling what little hair I have left out in frustration nursing the low memory on the N97.
What’s your favourite thing you’ve downloaded from Store? Why?
Pixelpipe for Share Online. Why? Simple, it allows me to upload a photo/video at the cost of a single upload, and Pixelpipe shares my photo with all of my other online media places, such as flickr, Ovi Share, and of course Twitter and Facebook.
What were you looking for the last time you used Maps?
While preparing for Nokia World 2010 in London, I added favorites to my Ovi Maps via the online portal, then syncing with my N86.
What would you like tell us here at Ovi by Nokia?
Listen to Nokia users and enthusiasts more, follow them, and learn from them because they, like me, can help Nokia and Ovi succeed and leap-frog the competition. So lets put the line “Connecting People” into force now!
