We here at Ovi are very proud to introduce you to Lukas Priklopil, a 28-year-old student from Finland’s Turku, who will embark on a round-the-world bike trip in about a week. His trip will be sponsored by Ovi; he will be equipped with, among other things, a Nokia N97 mini packed with Ovi stuff: unlimited music, the best apps (such as Gravity for tweeting on the go), free voice guided turn-by-turn navigation. On top of that he will get a brand new Nokia bike charger and, of course, a bike =) With the risk of sounding cheesy, Lukas embodies everything that Ovi is: fun, energetic and excited. How could we not support this guy on his looong trip?

Now, being from Tampere, I should probably bash him for his audacity of living in Turku (see more about ridiculous city rivalries in Finland here and here), but instead, I will be the bigger person and give the floor to him so that he can tell you about himself and his travel plans. He’s set to leave on July 6th, and we will publish his thoughts and experiences along the way right here at the Ovi Blog every couple of weeks.

Hi everybody!

My name is Lukas and in two weeks I’m about to start cycling around the world. To be honest, I’m not an athlete, bike expert or a wealthy man. I’m a 28-year old student from Turku, Finland, who just happens to love traveling. I’ve already done my InterRail-trekking-hitch-hiking trips in and outside of Europe, so this time I thought to make it a bit more ambitious. By saving up for a whole semester and being sponsored by Ovi, it seems I can finally begin to actualize my long-lasting dream.

I will pick up my brand new (sponsored) bicycle from Cologne, Germany in the beginning of July, purchase all necessary gear on the spot, and start biking towards east. The travel plan I created isn’t definite, but it gives a good idea which places I’d like to visit. Until Ukraine every country is more or less familiar to me, but everything will become new after crossing the Black Sea.

All necessary Maps I’ll need in my 14-month journey have been downloaded to my Nokia N97 mini, as well as all my favourite songs. My new (sponsored) mobile will play an important part also camera-wise, being the only device documenting my amazing moments.

Yup, everything is ready for me to hit the road, even my legs got a pre-practice before the actual take-off earlier this week when I biked 87 km to test my condition. Why 87? Well that must be my average daily ride, if I want to reach aimed 25 000km.
