I’m pleased to have you all know that a new Beta version of Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0 has been released in Nokia Beta Labs. After careful private alpha testing that lasted for about a month, we’d like to know what you think about the enhancements we’ve made.
You can get the Beta version at Nokia Beta Labs. Please bear in mind that the application isn’t a final product yet – and that you now have the opportunity to help us make sure the quality meets your requirements.
Here, we bring you a Nokia Ovi Suite that has undergone some major improvements. Many of the new features have found their way to Nokia Ovi Suite because of the suggestions that you, our users, have made. Our team has kept a close eye on the feedback we have received, and some of your key wishes have been chosen for implementation. The new and polished features are briefly introduced below.

The renewed Home view
In addition to having a serious facelift, the fresh Home view gives you quick access to both your own content and recommendations of new music, apps, games – and more – that you might like to add to your collection. The most important tasks are also within easy reach in Home: you can sync stuff between your phone and your computer, and get notified when an update is available for your phone software or when you should consider backing up the phone. Plus, if you need to connect to the internet when no fixed connection is available, Nokia Ovi Suite guides you to create the connection with the help of your phone.
Music
We think that life is much more fun when you can throw in a little music. And you seem to agree with us, because we’ve received numerous requests for additional music features. With Nokia Ovi Suite, you can now explore and enjoy the millions of tracks available on Ovi and download the best picks directly to your music library on your computer. You can buy music track by track or, if you’re a subscriber to the unlimited downloads service, your possibilities are, well, limitless. Transferring music to your phone is quick, as you can easily drag tracks to your phone in the Music view. This way, you can always have your music with you.
Maps
Downloading free street maps and voice guidance files for your phone is quick and easy, and takes place with even greater reliability in Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0. Try it out if you want to save in data transfer costs and are willing to take a moment to prepare for your journey beforehand. You can download brand new maps or update your current maps and voice guidance files to contain the latest information, and manage your maps more efficiently. For instance, you can now delete individual street maps and voice guidance files from your phone.
Other improvements
We’ve polished the installation and first-time use even further and reduced the number of steps needed to take the application in use. Installing Nokia Ovi Suite is now quicker and simpler, and should get you started in almost no time. During the first steps of using Nokia Ovi Suite, you can register for a new Nokia account or sign into an existing account. This is just to save you the trouble of signing into our online services individually, and to help you get easy access to music, apps and games on Ovi. Simple as that.
What’s more, we’ve succeeded in improving both the reliability of syncing and the stability of Nokia Ovi Suite as a whole. Creating the connection between your phone and your computer has also been simplified.
With the latest phone models, you no longer need to select a USB mode before the connection can be used, but the connection is created automatically. And there’s even more news from the usability front. As we’re intent on getting Nokia Ovi Suite to work better for you, we have also started a project that will improve the language used in the application. Our goal is to have Nokia Ovi Suite speak to you in normal every-day language that makes you feel comfortable and is easy to understand. We want to include enough guidance so that even users who have little experience with desktop applications can complete their tasks swiftly. And, if there is a problem, we want to help you sort it out. We believe there is a world of difference between saying Operation finished and Your contacts and calendar are now in sync.
As a cherry on top, you can now enjoy your photos and videos in a splendid full-screen view. Thought we’d stop there? Not quite, as exporting your messages for storing and viewing on the computer is yet another feature we have introduced in the latest version of Nokia Ovi Suite because of popular demand. Phew, there you have it. Something must’ve slipped my mind, but I’m sure you’ll get the idea of what we’re doing here.
Okay, that’s about it for now. Next, we’d like to learn more about your experiences with the new version of Nokia Ovi Suite. Did it meet your expectations or, perhaps, blow you away completely?
Kind regards,
Anu, Nokia Ovi Suite team
