That’s right. Ahead of this years Grammys on Sunday – we’ve taken a look at the Music downloads data on Ovi from last year and the trends have allowed us to predict that Alicia Keys and Jay Z’s Empire State of Mind (a song so popular it made it into Glee the very same year) is this years Record of The Year – if music downloads are anything to go by.

Empire State of Mind is up for THREE (count them) Grammys and is set to tough it out against some of last years biggest singles, including Love The Way You Lie (Eminem and Rihanna) and Nothin’ on You (B.O.B. feat Bruno Mars) but our global data shows that when compared to it’s rival nominees Empire State of Mind accounts for a whopping 42% of downloads! Also, it’s interesting to note that the three top contenders are all double acts – is this the beginning of a new trend?

Ovi downloads also indicate that Lady Gaga should have no problem at all in snapping up Album of The Year with her gigantic album The Fame Monster, but she’s got some stiff competition with both Eminem and Katy Perry also being in the running.
