The new Maps releases for mobile (v3.06 beta) and for web have been introduced here in London during Nokia World.
As your personal on site reporter I’ve been able to collect all the insider’s information about Ovi and today I’m going to explain more in detail all the improvements and new features which confirmed Maps as one of the best services I’ve ever had on my Nokia and in my browser.
Btw, did you know that Maps users navigate 80 times around the world every single day?

Search has been massively improved and enhanced with suggestions as you type, search history and did you mean? beta suggestions when you’re not sure how to spell that place name. Thanks to similar improvements, also on maps.ovi.com it’s now easier to find the places you are looking for.
Places you find on Maps for mobile and for web have now their own page with contact details, navigation options, ratings, nearby places list and precious information from over 25 third-party services, such as Lonely Planet, Expedia and Qype. Last but not least you can now share a place more easily and with everyone via email and text message. It’s as easy as sharing a web link that any (mobile) browser can open. On maps.ovi.com you can also share a place on Twitter and Facebook or create a new one.
If you love to share the places you go with your friends on Facebook, Twitter and many other social networks, you can use the newest Check in feature which is available on Maps for mobile. You can read more about this feature and the social experience on Symbian^3 in yesterday’s post.
Btw, Check in is very versatile: you can also simply create your own statistics of the places you go, without sharing them with others.
Did you think that Drive is only useful to get directions when you don’t know the route? Let Maps prove you the contrary! Now, even if you are commuting or heading to one of those places you visit every day, you get exactly the help you need: live traffic flow information and speed limit warnings.
Available in 19 countries, the traffic service will let you reach your destination in a naturally faster way. And if you use Maps in online mode you are going to anonymously contribute to the quality of this information! In fact, on top of traffic information publicly broadcasted by authorities, Maps also recognizes where the most users are currently driving and instantly estimates the traffic situation.
Are you looking for an example? Just watch this video which shows 24 hours of traffic information in central London.

And if you prefer to go around on foot, now you can see Public Transportation Lines in My Position and Walk modes. I really love this, especially because I’m a subway freak
