Review: Prima Lateral Pouch Case

While the HTC Touch Pro 2 is on everyone's mind, the Touch Pro and Fuze still have a faithful following. And that faithful following will likely be on the lookout for a quality case to carry their Windows Mobile phone in. Prima has been making nice mobile phone cases for years and WMExperts is offering their Lateral Pouch Case over at the Accessory Store.

We took it out for a test drive and had mixed feelings over this leather case. Follow the break to see the highs and lows of the Prima Lateral Pouch Case.

Out of the Box

Prima packages their Lateral Pouch Case conservatively in a plain white box. At first glance the Lateral Pouch looks and feels like a quality, well built leather case. It has a large flap that holds secure by magnets and a large plastic, rotating clip is sewn into the back of the case. The interior is lined with a felt like fabric. Stitching is tight and solid with no loose ends or frays noticeable.

Fit

The Fuze fits a bit loosely in the Prima case. The case is "universally" cut to fit a wide range of phones so a little give and take in the size isn't unusual. There is about a quarter inch play to either side of the phone but the case is cut tight enough width wise, that it's negotiable. Oddly enough, the case would probably fit the HTC Touch Pro 2 better. The case was noticeably large for the Samsung Jack and the iPhone fit rather nicely in the case.

The case has a cut out on the bottom to make removing the phone from the case easier. There's not much wiggle room with the width of the case so grabbing the phone by the sides can be challenging. But pressing up on the phone from the bottom cut out raises the phone enough so you can get a grip on it.

Ride

The clip is a little unusual in that it protrudes beyond the top of the case. At first I thought it would dig into my hip but it surprisingly rode comfortably. The protrusion gives you a gripping point for the clip, making it easier to place and remove from your belt.

Not sure about putting a rotating clip on a horizontal case and I can't think of a reason to rotate the case vertical. However, it was nice to have the ability to tilt the case forward slightly when sitting down. I'm in the car a good bit during the day and stationary cases at times get pushed forward by the back of the car seat. The ability to tilt the horizontal case made sitting a little more comfortable and alleviate some of the stress on the case.

Overall Impression

Can't say the Prima Lateral Pouch Case knocked my socks off but it was a nice case. The case is cut a little on the large side for the AT&T Fuze but as mentioned, it's negotiable. The Lateral Pouch is well constructed and rides comfortable, due in part because of the rotating clip.

The felt lining does shed a little but not enough to be of concern. All-in-all if this was the only case available for the AT&T Fuze, I'de be happy with it. But given the choice between the Prima Lateral Pouch case and the Body Glove Landmark case, I'd opt for the Body Glove for the Fuze/Touch Pro.

Overall: 3.75/5

Pros Solid Construction Rotating Clip Cons A little large for the Fuze/Touch Pro
