Hi, my name is Sophie-Charlotte Moatti, I work in the Mobile Computing team here at Nokia. I’m a news freak and have used the App Wizard (OAW) to create my own RSS feed reader. It took me less than 10 minutes and I love the sleek look of my app!
The app wizard has been launched earlier this year to let everyone create professional mobile applications from their web content and distribute the app on the Store to millions of people.
Today, I’m introducing the recent enhancements to the OAW which make it even easier to create sleek mobile apps. Here’s a recap of what’s new.
A sleek and fast-loading app. The OAW apps have gotten a facelift with new app design and faster loading times. Nokia smart phones like Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7, Nokia C6, Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 mini offer a home screen widget that lets you access content in no time.
Sharing and extended compatibility. You can now share your favorite articles on Twitter and Facebook directly from the app. We’ve expanded app support to more than 100 devices, including the new Nokia N8.
Improved app creation wizard. App creation is now easier than ever. We’ve localized the OAW, so that you can find apps in over 50 different languages like English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese or Arabic!
Find apps from more than 90 countries. Local communities such as church congregations, celebrity fan bases or university students and alumni in Germany, or Canada, together with top-tier brands and companies, including National Geographic, Yahoo, The Economist, Greenpeace, EMI Music, IDG, Axel Springer, WWF, Travel Channel, Food Network, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health and ZDNet, have already distributed their content to the Ovi Store using the OAW.
Using the OAW is super easy. During the Hackathon at the Nokia Developer Summit in London last month, a representative from Oxfam, who had no prior development experience, was invited to create an app using the OAW. Oxfam created an app in less than 15 minutes. The result? People can keep in touch with Oxfam’s projects and campaigns in more than 70 countries. The Oxfam app features blog posts, videos, images, tweets and lively debate. Here is how sleek it looks:
With the OAW you can find your favorite content on Ovi. Many of my friends created their own app using the OAW, maybe you’ll want to give it a try… Click here to begin, and then tell us about your experience in the comments section below.
Until then,
Sophie-Charlotte
