Ovi Fan Interviews: meet Avnee Nathani from India!

It’s time for our third Ovi Fan Interview, y’all! I’m hoping everyone has enjoyed the interview we’ve had so far (with CJ from ZOMGitsCJ.com and Jade from SymbianWorld.org), since there are plenty of fan interviews still to come!

This week we get to meet the wonderful (and gorgeous!) Avnee Nathani (@avneenathani) whom I already love since she’s a girl in a techie world, just like me All techie girls of the world unite, woot! Who are you and what do you do? Tell us the story of your life!

Hello everybody! I go by the name Avnee Nathani To introduce myself, I am an 18-year-old tech-savvy person from Bhavnagar located in the western part of India. I’m pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in my hometown. Besides being a student, I’m a ‘twisted’ individual who has always been most excited for different technologies, in any and all of its forms. My current endeavors include graduating from college with good grades, learning programming to enhance my software development skills and spending quality time with family and friends.

What makes you passionate about what you do?

I live to the fullest to do the things which I am most passionate about. The degree I’m pursuing justifies it quite nicely, and I enjoy studying the subjects I have opted for. I aspire studying programming because you start with nothing at first and at the end of it you get a brilliant thing made ON YOUR OWN. It makes me feel good when I end up with something productive. This is why I love programming in which I am still grasping knowledge from books and internet. Also, I am highly motivated, I learn quickly from my mistakes and I work very hard!

What do you like to do on your spare time? Do you have any hobbies, pets etc.?

The best “spare time job” for me is to take up my mobile and play around with its features or try out some applications on it. Apart from that, I like gardening, reading, music, watching movies, experimenting new softwares and playing games on my laptop. Sometimes, I hang out with my friends or shop with my mum. I am not a hardcore blogger but I do a good amount of microblogging at Twitter (@AvneeNathani) and Facebook.

How did you find out about us (the Ovi Blog)?

I found out about the Ovi Blog by chance when I was once surfing around Twitter. I started following @ovibynokia and started knowing more about the Ovi Blog. I appreciated the way my question was answered by Saara; since then I often check the posts at this blog and they are really interesting and informative. Especially Niini’s posts! (ed.note: aww… )

How long have you been a Ovi/Nokia fan? What do you like most about Ovi/Nokia?

I have been a Nokia fan since I started using it in 2006. I have been fond of Nokia’s OS, its consistent user-interface across low end to high end devices and the new technologies it has been introducing from time to time. Talking about Ovi, I am impressed by the fact that we can download applications from Nokia’s own store – the Store. I have downloaded many apps from the Store, my favourites being Nimbuzz – Free Calls & IM!, SMS Preview, Nokia Photo Browser, Email for Nokia and Angry Birds (among others).

What was your very first Nokia device?

My very first encounter with a Nokia phone was a S40 device: Nokia 6100. I got when I was in my 8th grade, which was when my dad gave me the permission to start using a mobile phone. It made me a responsible person and that feeling still stays. I started personalizing the phone with my creativity applying my favourite themes, setting alarms (wake up on my own for school) and organizing my to-do lists (I loved organizing my schedule!). I remember I used to install the latest Bollywood monophonic ringtones and flaunt with them before my friends, which I hate doing right now! Anyway, the default Nokia ringtone always rocks (haha).

Which device do you use right now?

At present, I am lucky to use two devices: Nokia N900 and Nokia 5800. I simply love both the devices. While the 5800 tends to be my primary device for making calls, messaging and listening to music, I use the N900 to surf the web, social networking and of course for taking stills and videos (with its high-quality camera).

What’s your favourite thing you’ve downloaded from Store? Why?

My favourite application on the Store would be the Email for Nokia. This app helps me check my e-mails from anywhere and has a quite good user interface. It’s an all time active application on my device and what could be better than getting instant email notifications! There are other apps too that I use frequently like Nimbuzz and SMS Preview.

What were you looking for the last time you used Maps?

I was in Mumbai recently, shopping around the streets of Bandra when I wanted to search for “Shopper’s Stop” and to my amusement, I found it through the Ovi Maps, and it made my walk to it possible. My parents were quite dazzled and impressed with the accuracy of the technology that I just used!

What would you like tell us here at Ovi by Nokia?
