N97 2.0 firmware may add access to 25-30 MB more internal memory

Even though I have had issues with the N97, I do keep putting my T-Mobile SIM back in it from time to time because the hardware is really quite fantastic. I was honestly thinking of selling it when I saw the N900 announcement, but changed my mind and decided to stick it out to see what the promised Nokia update would bring. After watching the below video I am once again quite excited about the N97 and hope this firmware 2.0 update gets here sooner rather than later.

A couple of issues I have had with the N97 have been the scroll bars/navigation and the low amount of onboard memory. I couldn’t believe it when Mark Guim posted the video below from Nokia World and the demonstrator showed kinetic scrolling throughout the device, new homescreen widgets, and updates under the hood that include memory configuration improvements where we may see something in the range of a 25-30 MB increase.

I heard that kinetic scrolling was coming, but didn’t think much of it. However, if you watch the video and see the difference between the two it has a SIGNIFICANT impact on usability of the device. I often went to opening the keyboard and using the directional pad to scroll, but no longer have to do this.

The 2.0 update is scheduled for an October release and I can’t wait!
