FCC hopes to take spectrum from weather balloons for phones




In its ongoing effort to find more spectrum for wireless broadband, the FCC has released a public notice seeking comment on how spectrum for weather balloons and satellites is being used. Also known as the Big LEO band, the 35MHz of spectrum sought after by the agency sits between 1,675MHz and 1,710MHz. The FCC is looking for ways to shift the job handled by Big LEO to land-based networks. The comment period is open until June 28th....
