Rumors of Android-powered netbooks from Dell, HP and Asus have been circulating but the Chinese manufacturer Skytone is apparently the first to get a working prototype together for the world to see. Based upon an ARM11 533Mhz CPU, the Alpha 680 will sport a 7-inch 800×480 display, 128MB of DDR2 RAM (expandable to 256 MB), 1GB SSD drive (expandable to 4 GB), SD card slot, two USB ports, Wi-Fi, 2-cell battery, keyboard and touch pad. Measuring 8.5 inches long, 6 inches wide, 1.2 inches thick and weighing in at 1.5 lbs, the Alpha 680 will fit the niche as a “tween device” smaller than the average 8.9″ netbook and bigger than the average mobile phone. Though less than aesthetically pleasing with all the cherry red bezel, the Alpha 680 will no doubt garner attention when it launches in Q3 2009 with an expected $250 price tag. Hit the jump for a few more pictures.
