Hi all,

The third artist we are presenting before the Pictoplasma festival and the Ovi by Nokia guided Character Walk opens its doors is UK based collective Inkygoodness. We caught up with Inkygoodness Creative Director Lisa Hassell, as she prepares for their exhibition Character Totem at Neurotitan Gallery.

Hi Lisa! Could you tell us about yourself and Inkygoodness? Inkygoodness is an international showcase for emerging illustrators and character designers, founded in 2008 by myself and illustrator Michelle Turton.

To date we have organised numerous exhibitions and events throughout the UK, working with a growing list of illustrators and artists from all over the world. Our aim is to create opportunities for artists to create exciting work, inspired by playful ideas, and connect with each other through social networking and attending our events!

Could you tell us about your exhibition Character Totem? Sure! ‘Character Totem’ will be a colourful, walk-through installation of 6ft Totem poles, customised by 35 artists and illustrators from across the UK & Europe. We’re taking over the large room at Neurotitan Gallery for the event (our first international show). Each artist was given a Totem on which to create their ‘character’, and the results are being exhibited together for the first time. Artists include Loulou & Tummie, Sneaky Raccoon, Thom Lambert and Mc Bess; one of the headline speakers at this year’s conference.

What are you mostly looking forward to from the festival? We absolutely love visiting Berlin, and preparing for our exhibition has kept us in a flurry of excitement for the last few months! Our launch night is going to be very special, so we are definitely looking forward to that – as we invite the conference visitors to journey to the valley of the Character Totems! Expect live mapping visuals, a DJ set and a fun, playful atmosphere – plus many of our exhibiting artists will be present to meet the public. I love the Character Walk, so its very special for us to be taking part this year, and of course it will be fantastic to catch up with faces old and new, and see what everyone else is up to!

- Thanks Lisa!
