The Pictoplasma festival is now ongoing in Berlin. There are loads of people wandering the streets of Mitte visiting the many Character Walk stations, screenings and performances. The busiest spots are around Rosa Luxemburg Platz and Rosenthaler Platz (which was very well noticed on Wednesday thanks to the opening parties that merged into one big party on the streets). That’s where we headed yesterday with Pino.

First, it was time to study the flyer and the route and go.

Both of us wanted to see the artwork by Mark Jenkins and Sandra Fernandez. We knew that Jenkins has had exhibitions in e.g. London, New York and Tokyo and have read about his work from magazines, so the expectations were high.

Did they meet the expectations? Definitely. I let the pictures speak for themselves.

To see this, navigate to Schwedter Str.262:

Another exhibition we enjoyed a lot was the one by Rilla Alexander, whom we introduced in one of our earlier posts.

The idea of Rilla’s exhibition is to feature screen prints and original drawings from her picture book she recently wrote about her alter-ego Sozi. The gallery entrance was very welcoming.

The real size Sozi is herself present at the exhibition:

At Jeremy Dower‘s gallery we loved this little thing:

After a long walk, what is better than to sit down and relax? And what would be a better way to end a day with character design than by watching South Park gems, hand-selected by Ryan Quincy, the Animation Director of South Park? I cannot think of any. Despite the late start of the screening, it was worth the tiredness in the morning.  So we headed to Babylon:

Quincy had picked episodes that are the most fun from the visual point of view to him. We saw two episodes from season 11, the ‘Lice Capades’ and ‘Fantastic Easter Special’. It was time just before the three episodes of Imaginationland to call it a night.

Great day overall.
