So yesterday the big news in the mobile phone space was the announcement of the iPhone 3GS that brings a faster processor, video capture support, 3 megapixel camera, a compass, voice control, and longer battery life. I was pleased with the news because it made my pre-order of the Nokia N97 seem all that more desirable as I will be passing up this iPhone update. As Nokia fans all know, the N97 already has all of this and more (FM transmitter, FM radio, integrated 32GB with microSD expandability currently limited to 16GB with future expansion up to 32GB more when the cards are available, 5 megapixel camera, hardware keyboard, full Bluetooth profile support, and much more). If Apple would have shown off an iPhone with a physical keyboard I would have considered it.

The Nokia N97, in its SIM-unlocked, no-contract state actually is even a better deal than the new iPhone 3GS for existing AT&T customers. If you are not a new customer or a valued customer eligible for an early upgrade then you will need to pay $699 for the 32GB iPhone 3GS and still have to sign up for another two-year contract. The Nokia N97 full retail is $699 with NO contract, but you can find it for less at places like Amazon and Dell (something on the order of $600).
